John Barbuto
For our third installment of Difference Makers, we're featuring nominated staff member John Barbuto, an Access Consultant who works in the UALR Disability Resource Center.
He joined the department all the way from Syracuse, NY, after he earned his Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from UALR and his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Le Moyne College, in Syracuse, NY.
Prior to coming to UALR, John worked in many facets of the disability-related field over the last decade. In his position here, John works with faculty, staff, administrators and students toward creating inclusive and sustainable learning environments. He collaborates with students to determine appropriate accommodations, and to identify aspects of the campus environment that may present barriers.

I can say without hesitation that John deserves this recognition. We were classmates that had the opportunity to meet when we came for a week to UALR for a mandatory workshop for the Rehab Counseling Program. John and I paired up for a role playing scenario and throughout the week, John taught me a lot about perseverance. I am glad to call John a friend and I know that he has a powerful impact on all those he meets. Thank you John for everything you do to help those with disabilities.

Mr Barbuto has work very hard to see to it that I was able to get to my classes. No matter what he made sure everything was ready each day for me. If a problem arose he made sure and found a solution as quick as possible. I can say with all honesty that I would not be graduating if Mr Barbuto had not put the time and effort into helping me that he did. I can not thank him enough and there are not enough honors to give him for his work with those with disabilities.
I recently had a situation with accommodations in my classes. Mr. Barbuto was very concerned and saw to it that the required accommodations that I qualified for were being met. Thank you Mr. Barbuto and welcome to Arkansas.

I'm happy to see John honored with this article. John not only helps students, as testified above, he is a great student himself. I know, because he was a student in my class at one point. The class was enriched because of his participation and leadership.
John Barbuto has earned this recognition. He has worked diligently to help others. He is an asset to the disability department and ualr. I admire his perseverance, he is our model. He is selfless, thoughtful and has the temperament to be an advocate for the disable as an attorney. I wish you the best in all your endeavors.

Mr. Barbuto has participated in the McClellan High School Transition Conference for two years. His ability to communicate with the students is awesome. Many students who think college is not an option reconsider after their interaction with John. May I add my congrats to John. As a parent of a student with a disability. My son was like a broken vase coming out of a bad experience at another University. I can not tell you how well his first meeting with John went. John was able to connect with my son, anticipate the type of problems he had and outline the accommodations needed to help make him achieve success at UALR. John spent time getting to know my son not just looking at his medical history for placement in the disability program.
I've had the pleasure of working with and around Mr. Barbuto for over a year now. I have watched John make a real difference in people's lives time and time again. His knowledge, professionalism, positivity, and availability are truly remarkable. I've been living as a quadriplegic with a complete cervical spinal cord injury for over 11 years now and very few people have impressed me as much as he has. He is a valuable asset to the UALR community and we are fortunate to have him.
wow congrats john! you are a genius.
